I think I have the best job in the world.   Living in the stunning Charente region of France and spending my working hours photographing couples during the happiest day of their lives.

What could be more satisfying than being part of their special day, capturing both the hilarious and intimate moments that will remain with them forever.

I moved here from Cambridge in the UK where I ran a successful portrait studio and was a member of the Master Photographers Association and the BIPP.  I have shot many weddings in the Poitou Charente, which is divided into four departments; the Charente, Charente Maritime, Deux Sevre and the Vienne. Although English is my first language I can speak French to a good standard and have photographed several French weddings.

Angouleme is my home town and the capital of the Charente.  However, throughout the Charente from Chalais and Barbezieux in the south to  Ruffec and Confolens in the north there are some spectacular wedding venues that attract couples from all over the world seeking something a bit different for their wedding day.

I believe that wedding photography is about capturing the true emotion of the day. However, this is only possible if the couple are relaxed and comfortable with their photographer.  I feel it is vitally important to build up a relationship with the couple from the first emails and the initial meeting, so that when the big day arrives we've already forged a good rapport.

My second rule is not to dominate the couple's day.  I have been to weddings where the photographer takes over and turns the day into a photo shoot.  I like to be as un-obtrusive as possible, capturing what I see.  I try to avoid stylised poses and try and keep things natural and fun. There is obviously some arranging when groups are involved, but I like to keep these as relaxed as possible.

I would describe my style of photography as a mixture of reportage with traditional images.

Here's a testimonial in full from Allison and Adam :

“As soon as we met Harriet we knew she was a true professional.  She made me and my wife feel so relaxed and knew exactly what to do, to get the greatest shots.  She began by taking pictures of me and my best men.  It was great fun and Harriet had loads of great ideas to make us all laugh and get some truly natural shots.  The pictures of the rings, venue and alter look fantastic and we couldn't have wished for anything better.  The pictures of my wife getting ready and the pictures before we got married are equally beautiful.  What really touched Ali and I was the extra mile Harriet was prepared to go to, to capture some amazing memories for us.  We actually booked Harriet for the half day of our wedding and by the reception she was still working, taking loads of pictures of us.  Actually the speeches put everything behind but Harriet was prepared to come back later on and photograph Ali and I so nothing interfered with our special day.  The photographs of our wedding were absolutely outstanding and I cannot recommend the service Harriet provided for us enough.  The wedding book is like nothing I have seen and has clearly had time and care poured into it.  If we were to do it all over again we would book her in a heartbeat.  Thank you so much for being part of our day and thank you so much for giving us such lovely pictures that captured it.  Wonderful!!!"
